A Beacon of Hope - Seashell Trust Celebrating 200 Years by Ed Baines

Merlin Unwin Books were delighted to be approached by the Seashell Trust last year, to help them publish a celebratory book to commemorate their 200th anniversary in 2023.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable collaboration between archivist and author Edward Baines, who wrote a lively account of the Trust’s work since a group of far-sighted Manchester industrialists and philanthropists came together to provide a better future for deaf children during the industrial revolution, right up to today.

Baines account is a surprisingly compulsive story which moves from humble beginnings in rented accommodation in Salford by the notorious local gaol, to Seashell’s present-day world-leading service and premises just outside Manchester.

Thanks to some wonderful archive photographs, we were able to embellish each double page spread of the book with pictures which further brought his text to life.

We were delighted to be part of the project and to see A Beacon of Hope, Seashell Trust Celebrating 200 Years, brought to fruition.

You Saw Me Standing Alone - A football memoir

You Saw Me Standing Alone is the compelling story of Alex Williams, one of Manchester City's most loyal servants. It was a pleasure to work with

Football Manchester City book

The evocative title of his autobiography, borrowed from a famous song by the club’s fans, depicts his lonely battle against racists who targeted one of the game’s first modern-day black goalkeepers. As a champion of the community, he inspired kids like him to turn their lives around through City’s pioneering charity programme.

Merlin Unwin Books was delighted to be asked to help layout, edit, design and print this book, and were pleased with the finished result.

Gun Book

Read a review in Shooting Sportsman - Game & Gun Gazette by Vic Venters about James Woodward & Sons limited edition publication.

'Harlow commands an impressive knowledge of British firearms, thanks in part to six years spent in the sporting-gun department of Bonhams Auctioneers. Since 2016 he has worked as gunroom manager and historian for Purdey.'
