Have you ever wondered what goes into making a leather book?
Hans van Klinken's book was leather bound by the Ludlow Bookbinders for this super deluxe edition. He visited their workshop in Shropshire to see the many steps involved in making such a bespoke item by skilled craftspeople.
The Klink, his flytying book, is stripped back to the book-block, boards are measured and edges trimmed. The spine is rounded. Leather is selected and cut to size, the edges are pared and folded and marbled paper is made especially to match the book. Next, a Solander Box is measured to perfectly house the book and flybox containing two of his fishing flies. We have shared a few photos which we hope will be of interest to the group.
Hans book is limited to just 40 copies, you can find more details about the leather edition production from Merlin Unwin Books.
