Autumn is a time for mushrooms

Posted by Lydia Unwin on

This autumn is proving to be a bonanza for mushrooming in the UK.

If on your walk you spot a fly agaric mushroom (the unmissable red one with white dots that fairies sit on) then don’t pick it, but thank it for being an INDICATOR species for telling you that there is VERY PROBABLY a delicious, safe cep (bolete) mushroom nearby, just waiting for you to pick and eat it. All explained in Mushrooming Without Fear by Alex Schwab.
