It's Earth Week, we are reading about Ascension island biodiversity

Posted by Lydia Unwin on

We support a plastic free ocean.
DYK: Nearly all species of sea turtle are classified as endangered, turtles often ingest plastic mistaking it for jellyfish (facts from WWF).
On Ascension island giant green turtles lumber up the beaches to nest. The island’s history is short but extraordinary.
It lies 800 miles from its nearest neighbour St Helena, and was described as ‘one of the strangest places on the face of the earth’.
This book by Duff Hart-Davis provides an overview of the island, its history, ecology and unique wildlife. Image below, from the book.
